Tired of adding census record images to your family tree person by person? Our new Household Merge feature allows you to add a census record to everyone in the household at one time.
Just follow these steps once you’ve located a census record for your family:
1. Click the “Save” button below the record.
2. Leave “Attach to someone in my tree” checked and click “Continue.” Ancestry shows you an index of all the people in your tree.
3. Locate one person you want to attach the record to; then, click “Attach.”
4. Check the fields next to the information from the record that you want to be included in your tree for that individual. A new box below the record explains that you can also attach the record to other relatives of that individual.
5. Click “Show relatives on this record.” Ancestry displays the other individuals listed on the record and tries to match them up with individuals on your tree, if there are any. If there aren’t any corresponding individuals, Ancestry still shows the person from the record.

Ancestry displays the individuals from the record on the left; it displays individuals from your tree who might match on the right, so that you can compare information.
6. Select the checkbox beside anyone on the record whom you want included in your tree. Click “Show Options” to select the specific information about that individual that you want included.
7. Click “Add to Your Tree.” The record will be attached to all of the individuals whom you have selected. Any new individuals from the record that you have selected will also be added to your tree.
If you have a record already attached to someone in your tree and would now like to attach it to everyone else in the family, you can use the Household Merge feature to do that too. Simply go the profile page for the individual to whom the record is already attached (roll your mouse over his or her name within your family tree and click “View profile”), locate the record you want to attach to the rest of the family, and click on it. Then, follow steps one through seven above.
