This is a photo taken by my great-uncle who was a photographer in Vernon, Michigan in the late 1800s through 1920--Dewey Bryant Photographer Studios. We believe this is a death memorial photo of someone in my great-grandmother Addie Smith Munger's family, Hiram Brown or George Smith, or earlier (circa 1870 to 1895). Look closely to see the unique use of straw and flowers. There are several wreaths, and it looks like a jeweled box in the center of the arrangement. There is a picture of the deceased in the center of the arrangement, he appears to have been a Civil War veteran, but I can't place him in our family tree. There is some hand sewn lettering or design on the cloth that the arrangement sits on. Also, notice in the upper right hand corner of the photo is the transparent shape of a chevron or "spider web" looking symbol. If anyone knows the significance of this picture please leave a comment.
