Ancestry.com recently released a new CD-ROM product, New York Births & Baptisms: Southeast Region 1660-1916. This collection of records was compiled from New York church records by Arthur C. M. Kelly, and includes over 75,000 records from Duchess, Greene, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties and provides details on more than 220,000 individuals. Records include the name of the child, along with the date or his/her date of birth and/or baptism. The names of parents are listed, along with the name(s) of any sponsor(s), and the source of the record.
The CD uses AncestryView, a sophisticated system that provides a robust search tool. On this CD, you can browse an entire church's roster of records, and each record has a reference ID number. You may also search by child's name, birth date, baptism date, parents' names, and sponsor(s) across all churches. You can tag specific records to print or copy at a later time. You can certainly print individual records or copy them to your Windows system clipboard and then switch to a word processing document or your genealogy database and paste the data there. You can bookmark a record to make it easy to quickly return there later. You can also add a note to a person's record for future reference.
The CD also has easily accessible links that allow you, while connected to the Internet in the background, to quickly connect you to the Ancestry.com, MyFamily.com and FamilyHistory.com (message board) Web sites. There is an extensive and easily understood help facility. Once you find a person's record, the FAQ area of this CD says you can obtain copies of individual records from a church listed on the CD-ROM by contacting Kinship Publishing at an address provided. If you are researching in any of the six counties listed above, you will find this CD-ROM a very easy product to use and one loaded with data.
