This “studio” portrait was taken c. 1907 in the Bronx, New York. My grandfather, Philip Francis McEvoy (1894-1969) is at the wheel. Also included are his siblings Jimmy who suffered brain damage in a Third Ave. streetcar accident (1887-1954), Loretta (1890-1952), Joe (1898-1978), and in front Willie (1903-1983). Their parents Philip and Bridget Doyle were Irish immigrants who were married in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1883 and died in 1910 within days of each other. This left my grandfather in charge at age sixteen. An eighth grade dropout, he became an executive in a manufacturing company in Warren, Pennsylvania.
